PLASTIC FANTASTIC
Memories are made of this
Snap, crackle and pop is the advertising slogan of a US breakfast cereal, the sound of milk being poured over processed oats. It’s also the sound made by old 33-rpm records when needles scratch over vinyl.

Most consumers of digital music probably don’t miss the LP, but thanks to its dedicated fans vinyl is definitely making a comeback, together with the record player and the needle.

For nostalgia lovers not afraid to try something different, the trend comes with a new “app” – pressing a deceased family member or beloved pet into a piece of plastic – to keep for life, and pass on. Recyclability is clearly not an issue here.

Production of the 7- or 12-inch clear or coloured memory disc made by And Vinyly is the same as for a standard LP, except that the ashes of the departed are added during the process, along with a favourite tune or a portrait. A basic package starts at GBP 900 (EUR 984).

The ashes add extra crackle, the company’s founder Jason Leach says with a nod to LP aficionados.
