Residents of a small German town in January had a far less romantic experience of what “gone with the wind” can mean. The gusts were so strong that all rotor blades of a wind turbine located near a regional highway came crashing down. While the weather did – literally – take the wind out of the figurative sails, the breeze was not ill: No one was hurt by the 100 t of metal and plastic debris that hit the ground.
Only one last straw – the tower – remains of the 20-year old turbine that was due to be dismantled in three months’ time anyway. Mother Nature has now taken care of that…
