Artificial intelligence is set to take centre stage at the Plastics Recycling Show Europe 2026, held at Amsterdam’s RAI exhibition and convention centre on 5 and 6 May, with more than 450 exhibitors expected to attend.
A newly introduced AI innovation hub – a themed exhibition area bringing together interactive displays and exhibitors focused on artificial intelligence – is to present the latest AI-driven solutions in plastics recycling. It is expected to offer visitors an immersive journey across the value chain, from feedstock and product design to collection, processing, and material sourcing.
Anticipated highlights include swarm-robot sorting technology developed by Antfarm (Amsterdam; www.antfarm.com/) and a mobile AI material analysis tool from Safi.
Antfarm is to showcase its Swarm Alpha system, a fleet of six to ten robots designed to sort mixed waste streams such as bottles, cans, and cartons. The company also plans to introduce Antfarm Beta, a next-generation system capable of sorting up to ten times faster than its predecessor. The Beta system uses a different approach, with robots picking and storing individual items in onboard bins, enabling significantly higher throughput.
The demonstration is to highlight the company’s real-time vision system, powered by advanced AI models that enable accurate material recognition during sorting. A live dashboard is set to display performance data, including sorting rates and material types processed.

Sébastien Willems, co-founder and chief executive of Antfarm, said the latest demonstration represents a significant advancement compared with 2025, particularly in handling a wider range of materials and improving picking speeds.
Visitors to the area can also expect to engage with Safi’s phone-based AI solution, which allows users to analyse recycled PET material in real time. According to Safi’s head of product, Declan Clancy, attendees will be able to test the technology themselves using a mobile device.
The 2026 edition of the event marks its 10th anniversary and is to open with a keynote session to be led by Jessika Roswall and Ton Emans, focusing on rebuilding the European plastics recycling industry.
KI.PIE will also attend the two-day event, and plans to introduce price reporting for rPVC as part of its recyclates coverage. Visitors can also expect a proposed directory for recyclates, designed to provide key data on recyclate producers in Europe, including materials and capacities. In addition, KI.PIE intends to present its recyclate portfolio and the new pricenxt business intelligence platform at its stand in Hall 5 (L64).
Plastics Recycling Show Europe 2026 is part of a global series of events, with additional editions scheduled in Mumbai, Dubai, and Shanghai later in the year.
