PLASTICS MARKETS GERMANY
Launch of data collection for new plastics material flow map / Companies invited to participate
— By Plasteurope.com staff —
How many tonnes of plastics are produced each year in Germany? In which applications are they used? How are the recycling pathways for plastics waste developing, and what role does the use of recycled materials play? Answers to these questions are provided by the comprehensive study, Material Flow for Plastics in Germany.

Every two years, a broad coalition of organisations across the entire plastics value chain calls for participation in this study, which has been conducted since 1997. For the 2025 edition, all companies operating in Germany that manufacture, process or use plastics in end products, as well as those that collect and recycle plastics waste or produce machinery for these processes, are invited to participate.

Data collection is carried out by Conversio (Mainaschaff, Germany; www.conversio-gmbh.com). Anyone wishing to take part this year can contact Julia Hein at Conversio (j.hein@conversio-gmbh.com) by email. The survey runs until the end of April.
The results of the latest material flow analysis are expected to be published in October 2026. It remains to be seen whether plastics production and processing in Germany continued to decline or whether the situation stabilised in 2025, Christoph Lindner, managing director of Conversio, told Plasteurope.com.
He added that it will also be interesting to see if the trend towards reduced use of fossil raw materials and an increasing proportion of recycled materials continued last year.
