Having entered into force on 11 February 2025, the regulation has generally applied largely since 12 August 2026, marking the beginning of a far-reaching transition for companies placing packaging on the EU market.
On 8 October, 13:00–14:30 CEST, online via Zoom, Plasteurope.com will examine the first industry reactions in a new PIE Industry Talk, PPWR in Practice: First Industry Reactions and What Comes Next.

The PPWR reaches far beyond consumer-facing packaging. It applies to all packaging and packaging waste, irrespective of the material used or whether it originates in industry, manufacturing, retail, distribution, offices, services, or households.
Its implications therefore extend throughout the plastics value chain – from polymer producers, compounders, and packaging converters to recyclers, machinery suppliers, brand owners, importers, distributors, as well as operators of industrial and production-packaging systems.
The online webinar will be moderated by Somya Abrol, editor-in-chief of Plastics Information Europe. Joining her are
- Paolo Glerean, chairman of RecyClass and board member of Plastics Recyclers Europe (PRE), and
- Cristina Galán, head of packaging sustainability at the Spanish association of plastics manufacturers, ANAIP.
For companies that make, use, place on the market, collect, sort, recycle or regulate packaging, this webinar offers a timely opportunity to hear informed, practical perspectives on the PPWR’s first few weeks of application, and the changes that will shape Europe’s packaging market in the years ahead.
