Huntsman says it will build world's largest LDPE plant in UK
The Huntsman group (www.huntsman.com), Salt Lake City, Utah / USA, is planning to build what it claims will be world's largest low density polyethylene (ldPE) plant at Wilton in the UK, CEO Peter Huntsman told a British chemicals journal. Huntsman said the new 375,000-400,000 t/y commodity grade plant, which will cost EUR 200-220m, will save money on freight costs as shipping ethylene to overseas customers costs more than shipping PE. A decision on the production process is expected for the end of April, with start-up slated for Q1 2006. Basell, Equistar, ExxonMobil, Polimeri Europa and Sabtec are the leading providers of LDPE technology.
