Bayer MaterialScience production restarts at Krefeld-Uerdingen and Baytown after explosions
Production facilities at the Krefeld-Uerdingen site of Bayer MaterialScience (Leverkusen / Germany; www.bayermaterialscience.com) are now operating at full capacity again and the force majeure for MDI in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region has been withdrawn. The plant had been shut following an explosion in a carbon monoxide unit on 15 November 2006 – see Plasteurope.com Web of 06.12.2006 –, but production of CO, MDI and polycarbonate are now back on stream, according to a company statement of 21 December. The same statement said, also, that the TDI production line in Baytown, Texas / USA has been repaired following an explosion in October 2006 and is gradually being brought back to full capacity – see Plasteurope.com Web of 20.10.2006). The force majeure subsequently imposed is expected to be lifted in January 2007.
