Soft-drink giant cuts virgin plastic use by 6% in key packaging markets

According to its latest ESG reporting, PepsiCo (Purchase, New York, USA; www.pepsico.com) reduced its use of virgin plastic in primary packaging across its key packaging markets by 6% between 2024 and 2025.

The food and beverage group said it used a total of 2 mn t of plastic in key packaging markets in 2025, including primary packaging. Recycled plastic accounted for 18% of the plastic used in primary packaging in these markets during the year.

The figures were published as part of PepsiCo’s 2025 ESG Summary, released on 13 August, which reports progress towards the company’s PepsiCo Positive (pep+) sustainability targets for 2030.
Packaging forms part of the group’s wider sustainability programme, alongside emissions reduction, agriculture, water stewardship, and changes to its food and beverage portfolio.
PepsiCo also reported reductions in greenhouse gas emissions compared with its 2022 baseline, including a 24% decrease for the emissions covered by its Scope 1 and 2 target.
