The initiative’s membership includes packaging manufacturers, distributors, representatives of the trade, municipalities, and recyclers. It aims to collect plastic packaging and beverage cartons throughout the country and send them for recycling.

RecyPac organises the collection scheme, but has no logistics fleet or recycling plants of its own. Instead, the association works with local partners.
The most recent figures for Switzerland show that some 195,000 t plastics waste and beverage cartons are generated as domestic waste every year. The national recycling rate for these materials was only 3%, however, which is very low compared with other European countries. Contrary to the case for the latter, Switzerland has so far not introduced any mandatory recycling rates for plastics packaging.
RecyPac is introducing its own collection bags similar to those used in the established PET system. The RecyBag comes in four sizes (17 l to 110 l) and can be purchased in retail stores for between CHF 1 and CHF 4. Full bags can be returned to participating stores or taken to municipal collection points.
