MONTELL
New polypropylene plant in France
Montell Europe (HQ: PO Box 625, NL-2130 AP Hoofddorp) has selected Berre, France, as the site for a new 250,000 t/y polypropylene plant. The unit will utilise Montell's Spheripol process technology and will be capable of producing a full range of homopolymers and copolymer products. The Berre site was selected after a study of several European locations. Detailed engineering plans will begin immediately and a final decision on construction timing will be reached by the end of September 1996.
At the Berre site, Montell currently operates a steam cracker which produces ethylene and propylene and will provide the feedstocks to the new polypropylene unit. Also located on the site is a 150,000 t/y slurry process polypropylene plant; the intention is to use the old plant for specialty products and to transfer most production to the new unit.
