Paperboard specialist installs PE coating line in Sweden / Entry into plastics processing

Finnish paper and paperboard packaging manufacturer Metsä Board (Espoo; www.metsaboard.com) is broadening its expertise into plastics processing. The company has installed a new extrusion line for PE coating of paperboard packaging at Husum / Sweden. Metsä Board estimates the investment costs for the line, with a capacity of around 100,000 t/y of coated paperboard, to be EUR 38m.
With conventional coating technology, the capacity demand should be between 20,000 to 25,000 t/y of LDPE – a relevant magnitude for this market segment in Europe.
