Industrial packaging manufacturer commissions IBC recycling plant at BASF site in Spain

Industrial packaging manufacturer Mauser Packaging Solutions (Oak Brook, Illinois, USA; www.mauserpackaging.com) has commissioned a new plant for processing intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) in Tarragona, Spain. Located on the premises of BASF (Ludwigshafen, Germany; www.basf.com), the facility reconditions used IBCs and extracts recyclates from containers that are no longer fit for reuse. The US company did not disclose the amount of the investment.

Mauser announced that the processed IBCs will not only be used for the products of the German chemical giant, but also by other companies in the region. The new plant has been certified by the German federal institute for materials research and testing, BAM (Berlin; www.bam.de; BAM 11027 and BAM 14817) and thus meets the requirements for the transport and handling of hazardous goods, the company said.

The expansion of the Tarragona site is part of a comprehensive investment programme worth around USD 1 bn (EUR 877 mn), with which Mauser is investing in recycling projects, among other things, to reduce CO₂ emissions and promote the circular economy. Mauser Packaging Solutions employs around 11,000 people at more than 180 locations worldwide.
