South Korean firm establishes tech centre in Germany
South Korean chemicals and plastics group LG Chem (Seoul; www.lgchem.com) said it has opened a technology centre in Frankfurt, Germany to support the group’s European partners.

The company, which started building its EU CS Centre two years ago with an investment of KRW 50 bn (EUR 35 mn), noted that the facility houses laboratories and pilot plants and lines for processes such as extrusion and injection moulding spread over three storeys on floorspace of approximately 7,400 m2.

Around 140 staff work the centre, “providing technical support for various products, such as automotive materials and eco-friendly recycled plastics”, LG Chem said.

The Frankfurt facility is the company’s first in Europe. It already operates a similar centre in Osan, South Korea, and two in China – in Huainan and Hwadong. The group said it planned to open one in the US in the near future.
