As reported by the European adhesive label industry association, Finat (The Hague;, demand for self-adhesive labels in Europe slumped in Q4 2022: after a weak first half of the year and a recovery in the third quarter, sales in Q4 were 24% below the value of the same quarter of the previous year.

In 2022 as a whole, 4.7% fewer labels for paper and film reels were sold than in the previous year.

In view of the current conditions – increasing economic uncertainty, high energy and raw material costs, and a looming recession due to loss of income among European consumers – label printers reduced their inventories towards the end of the year and postponed restocking them for the time being, Finat reports.

The association has more than 550 members in over 50 countries worldwide.
