Plastics distributor acquires minority stake in Swedish wood fibre start-up
In June, German plastics distributor K.D. Feddersen (Hamburg; www.kdfeddersen.com) acquired a minority stake in start-up company Biofiber Tech Sweden (BFT, Stockholm; www.biofibertech.com). No further details of the transaction were provided. Under the name FibraQ, the Swedish company, which was founded in 2016 by Eric Zhang and currently has eight employees, markets chemically modified wood fibres and wood fibre compounds for plastics applications that are processed by injection moulding, extrusion, thermoforming, and 3D printing.

The Feddersen group plans to support BFT with further development of FibraQ and with the development of new applications and geographic markets. In return, it will gain access to the surface-modified wood fibres in granulate form. The Innovation Lab of German distributor port F (www.portf.net) is to coordinate the collaboration between the producer and the Feddersen subsidiaries, which include the distribution companies and compounders, Akro-Plastic (Niederzissen, Germany; www.akro-plastic.com) and Bio-Fed (Cologne, Germany; www.bio-fed.com).
