“Curver” food-storage containers made of rPP / Scrap from medical technology products used as base material
Plastics processor Keter Plastic (Herzliya / Israel; www.keter.com) has launched food-storage containers made of 100% recycled polypropylene under its “Curver” brand, “Smart Eco”. The series, which is produced at the company’s Hungarian plant in Ebes, includes a range of food containers, such as lunch boxes, microwave bowls and sealable containers.

“The base material for the new boxes is recycled scrap from the production of medical products,” a company spokesperson told Plasteurope.com. “These are processed into food-safe granulate in a closed cycle.” According to the company, the sealing rings of the food containers, made of non-recyclable thermoplastics, are the only components that are still made from virgin material.

Keter is committed to making 55% of all its products from recycled materials by 2025 and 80% by 2028 (see Plasteurope.com of 26.07.2021). Currently, this proportion is just over 40% across its portfolio – including garden furniture, plant containers and toolboxes, as well as food-storage containers.

The group, which achieved turnover of EUR 1.2 bn in 2020, stated that it had already stopped producing single-use plastic products several years ago. Keter employs 4,500 people worldwide.
