Portuguese packaging manufacturer expands into US

Intraplás (Santo Tirso, Portugal; www.intraplas-packaging.com), a manufacturer of plastic packaging for dairy products, has opened its first production plant in the US in Van Wert, Ohio. The company invested around EUR 40 mn in the approximately 10,000 m² facility, which extrudes films and further processes them using thermoforming. More than 50 jobs were created locally. “The branch brings us closer to our international customers,” said CEO Duarte Faria.

Intraplás operates two sites in Portugal – Rebordões, which focuses on lamination and extrusion, and Lordelo, which specialises in thermoforming and printing packaging.
According to the company, it invested around EUR 15 mn in 2023 and 2024 in expanding its extrusion capacities for PET and polystyrene, among other things. The total extrusion capacity at the two Portuguese sites currently stands at 105,000 t/y. With around 400 employees, Intraplás most recently reported sales of approximately EUR 150 mn.
