A range of LDPE grades designed to meet exacting and long-term medical and pharmaceutical packaging requirements has been launched by Ineos Polyolefins (Lyndhurst / UK; www.ineospolyolefins.com). “EltexMED” grades of LDPE are designed for the blow-fill-seal technology used in pharmaceutical liquid packaging for applications such as IV fluid bottles and single-dose ampoules, where respiratory and ophthalmic solutions are steam treated at temperatures up to 110 °C. The performance characteristics of EltexMED also suit the requirements of injection moulded packaging that is sterilised by ethylene oxide or irradiation at up to 35kGy.
