NGO Ayuda en Acción (Madrid; www.ayudaenaccion.org), Thai PET giant Indorama Ventures (IVL, Bangkok; www.indoramaventures.com), and IMG Group (Santo Tirso, Portugal; www.imggroupcorp.com) have teamed up to launch Bamagreen – a recycling and reforestation initiative to combat the environmental crisis in Mali’s capital, Bamako.
The project, part of IMG Group’s Plastic2Prosperity programme developed through its adaPETation network, aims to improve plastic circularity while creating socio-economic opportunities for nearly 2,000 people – 40% of whom are women.

With support from local social enterprise Ecobuild, Bamagreen is expected to enhance recycling infrastructure and introduce environmental education to counteract the effects of unmanaged plastics waste, open dumping, and deforestation. More than 100,000 residents are estimated to benefit from reforestation and awareness campaigns across the city.
Yash Lohia, executive president at Indorama Ventures, said, “By raising awareness and investing in circular solutions like Plastic2Prosperity, we can transform environmental challenges into engines of socio-economic growth.”
Social impact manager at IMG Group, Carlota Calonje, described Bamagreen as a blueprint for future projects. “This is only the beginning – we aim to scale this model to other regions where plastic is part of both the problem and the solution.”
