On 29 November 2017, PET world market leader Indorama Ventures (IVL, Bangkok / Thailand; www.indoramaventures.com) completed the acquisition of Artlant PTA (Sines / Portugal; www.artlantpta.com – see Plasteurope.com of 15.11.2017). This was revealed in a stock exchange announcement.

According to Plasteurope.com's Polyglobe database (www.polyglobe.net), Artlant's plant in Silves / Portugal has a production capacity of 700,000 t/y of PTA. IVL has additional plants in Europe for the PET precursor, in Rotterdam / The Netherlands, (700,000 t/y) and San Roque / Spain (480,000 t/y). With total capacity now at around 5.4m t/y of PTA, IVL continues to be number two worldwide behind BP (London / UK; www.bp.com) with a capacity of 7.5m t/y.
