Electronics giant Honeywell (Charlotte, North Carolina / USA; www.honeywell.com) is the latest firm to announce it will produce personal protection equipment (PPE) for health workers in the UK dealing with the impact of the coronavirus outbreak. A deal was signed with the UK government to deliver 70m face masks to frontline workers.
The company plans to start production at its Newhouse facility in Scotland by July. The plant, which normally assembles electronic systems, would be able to produce up to 4.5m FFP2 and FFP3 masks a month. It said it will recruit 450 staff to fulfil the job.
Honeywell joins a number of plastics firms in the UK that have committed production facilities to manufacture PPE, including Aquapak (Birmingham; www.aquapakpolymers.com), AMB (Gateshead; www.ambpackaging.com) and Rapid Action Packaging (London; www.rapuk.com – see Plasteurope.com 0f 08.05.2020).
