GURIT-HEBERLEIN
Focus on plastics technology / Increased business in industrial and medical specialities
Gurit-Heberlein AG (CH-9630 Wattwil; www.gurit.com) launched its company´s realignment when it sold its Automotive division to former cooperation partner Dow Chemicals ( www.dow.com) on 31 December 2000 (see Plasteurope.com 21, 2000). Today, Gurit-Heberlein´s core business takes in technologically demanding plastics applications in both industry (Industrial Applications) and medicine (Health Care).
The 2000 operative business year was the most successful year in the company´s history, with sales of CHF 732m (previous year: CHF 696m) and an EBIT of CHF 127m (109m). Without the contribution of the Gurit-Essex automotive activities (included in full for the last time), the increase in sales would have been some 13%, to CHF 295m, in 2000, together with an EBIT of CHF 43m (29m).
With the acquisition of Stesalit AG (CH-4234 Zullwil; www.stesalit.com), active in the field of Advanced Composites, at the start of this year (see Plasteurope.com 1, 2001 “Pointers”), Gurit-Heberlein has taken a further step towards expanding its high-performance composite division. Stesalit is intending to strengthen its worldwide market position for composites in cooperation with the IMS Group (CH-3063 Ittingen / Berne; www.ims-plastics.com), traditionally a supplier to the winter sports article industry.
Gains in market shares and export successes have meant that large-scale production runs and full capacity utilisation have already been achieved in the health care sector. In the health field, Gurit-Heberlein is specialised in the production of sterile respiration products and medical consumption parts under clean-room conditions.
