GRÜNE PUNKT
Germany's recycling group, Italy's Synextra ink Europe-wide deal on waste streams / Focus on materials to feed mechanical, chemical reclaim
Major German recycling group Grüne Punkt Holding (Cologne; www.gruener-punkt.de), also known as Duales System Holding (DSD), said it will collaborate with Italian sorting firm Synextra (Milan; www.synextra.com/en) in the “preparation of feedstock for chemical recycling and high quality mechanically recycled compounds.”

The pact covers both Italy and Europe, the firm said, noting that the partnership comes “in response to a rising need for recyclates from chemical recycling and for its respective feedstock. The growing demand for circular polymers and recycled content in packaging is driven by the EU’s newly proposed targets under the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). The companies will combine their capacities and experiences to leverage synergies, which will lead to better solutions and products for the needs of the circular economy across the EU and beyond.”

Without further elaboration, the German company noted that as part of the “strategic collaboration”, UK private equity firm and Synextra shareholder Pioneer Point Partners (London; https://pioneerpoint.com) has joined the Grüne Punkt group.

According to Synextra’s website, the Italian company has been owned by a group of international investors led by Pioneer since 2011.
