In Raunheim / Germany, close to Frankfurt Airport, Greiwing logistics for you (Greven / Germany; www.greiwing.de) has opened a distribution centre, which will also serve as the main European storage facility for the high-performance plastics produced by Celanese (Dallas, Texas / USA; www.celanese.com). The Texan company has rented 70% of the capacity, for several years, and will store PE and PA there (see Plasteurope.com of 07.10.2016). The other 30% is reserved for a second US plastics company, which does not want to be named, and intends to store plastics there for the pharmaceutical industry, said a Greiwing spokesperson.
The facility has a 13,000 m² logistics hall with 35,000 pallet storage units as well as two separate silage areas, said the logistics service provider. In future, the site will handle 250,000 t/y with a workforce of 48. The majority of this sum is accounted for by shuttle deliveries to and from the production plants of Frankfurt customers. The Greven-based family company has invested EUR 20m in the project.
According to Greiwing, the services offered cover unpacking and storage of packaged goods, ensilage of big bags and sacks, removal of samples, order picking, re-palleting as well as matters connected with transportation. The facility has eight ramps, of which two serve as fast-loading ramps for loading and unloading vehicles.
In 2011, Celanese opened one of the world's largest POM plants in Frankfurt. According to Plasteurope.com's Polyglobe database (www.polyglobe.net), the facility in the Höchst Industrial Park has a capacity of 140,000 t/y. In Frankfurt-Höchst, the company also operates a VAM production plant with a capacity of 285,000 t/y. This site and the commercial centre nearby Sulzbach / Germany, with 1,300 employees, is apparently the largest Celanese production site network in the world.
