GEIGER TECHNOLOGIES
Restructuring of R&D activities / 157 jobs to be lost / Concrete talks with buyers
The administrator of insolvent auto components supplier Geiger technologies (Garmisch-Partenkirchen / Germany; www.geigertechnik.de), Martin Prager, is planning to restructure the company's R&D activities to improve internal procedures. A total of 157 jobs will be lost and production at the company's headquarters will cease as a result. The municipal court in Weilheim opened insolvency proceedings on the company on 1 February 2009 – see Plasteurope.com of 06.02.2009.
The restructuring will lead to the loss of 35 of the 188 jobs in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, with workers receiving offers to relocate to one of the company’s other German plants. The administration section will be retained with an as yet unspecified number of staff. In Murnau / Germany, the restructuring will mean cutting 61 of the 253 jobs, while the same number will be lost from the of 332-strong workforce in Tambach-Dietharz / Germany.
One of the aims of the restructuring is to integrate production-related research and development activities that are currently located centrally in Garmisch-Partenkirchen to their respective production facilities. The company said that Prager is currently "holding concrete talks with interested buyers", but no names have yet been mentioned.
