Green fingers at the ready for first “bio-keyboard” / Biograde resin from German producer
European IT infrastructure provider Fujitsu Technology Solutions (Munich / Germany; http://ts.fujitsu.com) has introduced what it claims to be the world’s first injection moulded computer keyboard made from renewable materials. This newly developed eco-keyboard “KBPC PX ECO” has been launched under the label “Green IT” with “Biograde” resin from FKuR Kunststoff (Willich / Germany; www.fkur.com) being used for some of the component parts. “In order to reduce the dependency on oil, Fujitsu’s new keyboard replaces 45% of plastic components with materials from renewable resources”, said Jürgen Geiger, project manager at Fujitsu Technology Solutions.

“Biograde” C 7500 CL was specified for the “bio-keyboard” base because of its ease in processing using existing production equipment and its superior mechanical properties. “Parts made from Biograde meet the special requirements for keyboards and in some cases even exceed the properties of oil-based plastics,” said Thomas Raab, project manager at injection moulder Amper Plastik (Dachau / Germany; www.amperplastik.de), which was responsible for producing the component.
