Welsh firm heads project to reclaim “difficult” plastics
UK recycling firm Fiberight (Swansea; is leading a consortium of four companies conducting trials for capturing, recovering, and recycling plastic packaging currently lost to landfill and incineration.

Backed with more than GBP 4 mn (EUR 4.8 mn) of UK government funding, Fiberight’s Swansea plant (see of 09.12.2021) is set to use feedstock from local Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs), starting with contaminated films and rigid plastics before moving to processing reject materials. The capacity of the facility is expected to be up to 60,000 t/y.

End markets and applications for the recycled materials are to include non-food contact packaging, heavy gauge refuse sacks, pipes, buckets, and roadside furniture.

Additionally, Fiberight has secured GBP 100,000 (EUR 119,000) from the Welsh government towards a GBP 200,000 (EUR 239,000) plastics research and development project that aims to commercialise a near-to-market application for flexible plastics.
