Expansion of German film plant
German packaging manufacturer Fernholz (Meinerzhagen; www.fernholz-verpackungen.de) said it has earmarked investments in the lower two-digit million euro range for the expansion of its domestic film plant in Schkopau. The company announced in March that work had already started on constructing a production shop. The 2,250 m² extension is scheduled for completion by 2023. The company has not yet disclosed information about job creation.

With the new production shop geared to energy efficiency, Fernholz CEO Michael Roth said the company is setting out to achieve an “exemplary CO2 footprint for our production”. Fernholz manufactures so-called sales film in PET, polystyrene, and polypropylene in a thickness range of 200-2,000 µm at its sites in Meinerzhagen and Schkopau. The Meinerzhagen plant additionally makes thermoformed and injection-moulded parts.

With a total of 220 employees, the company processes some 24,000 t/y of plastics granules, a quantity it seeks to increase to 40,000 t through the expansion. Fernholz did not give a specific figure for its output. The company’s most recently reported annual sales were around EUR 60 mn.
