EXXONMOBIL CHEMICAL
TPVs for tools and automotive applications
ExxonMobil Chemical (Houston, Texas / USA; www.exxonmobilchemical.com) has introduced a new range of “Santoprene” TPVs that bond with nylon in cold insert over-moulding applications. The new "B500" grade, which can be coloured or black, has been developed for applications that require a strong bond with nylon and high temperature resistance, such as non-slip grips for power tools, heat resistant kitchen tools with soft touch handles, automotive applications, furniture and sporting goods.
The company claims that overmoulds as thin as 0.5 mm are no problem, whereas conventional materials can require at least three times that thickness. ExxonMobil says that the grade offers long-term sealability; durable slip resistant feel; excellent compression set; chemical, oil and heat resistance; and enhanced bond integrity.
