Coronavirus sparks postponements of further plastic events in Europe
The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has forced the rescheduling of a number of European plastics industry events. Organisers of the annual “Plastics Recycling Show Europe” (PRSE; www.prseventeurope.com) have announced the postponement of this year’s show until 2021 after consulting with event stakeholders. Scheduled for 27-28 October 2020 in Amsterdam, the in-person version has been moved to 2021, according to organisers Plastics Recyclers Europe (PRE, Brussels / Belgium; www.plasticsrecyclers.eu) and Crain Communications (Detroit, Michigan / USA; www.crain.com). In a statement, the partners said a virtual event is planned for the last quarter of 2020. Dates for both events will be announced in due course, the hosts noted. The latest information will also be posted on the event website.

The 2020 show was first slatted for 25-26 March (see Plasteurope.com of 24.01.2020) “This decision does not come easily, but we are confident that it is the best solution in securing the health and safety of all our participants,” said Ton Emans, president of Plastics Recyclers Europe. “PRSE is adapting to the realities of today, and with that we are determined to fulfil the expectations of our audience as the show evolves.”

UK event organiser AMI (Bristol; www.ami.international.com) said it has postponed four shows in Germany from 7-8 October 2020 at the Messe Essen. The trade fairs – “Compounding World Expo”, “Plastics Recycling World Expo”, “Plastics Extrusion World Expo” and “Polymer Testing World Expo” – have been rescheduled to take place on 1-2 June 2021. The organiser is expecting in excess of 200 exhibitors across the four shows.

Revealing the move, AMI events director Andy Beevers said, “We felt it was important to make and announce this decision now, in order to end the current uncertainty and to allow exhibitors, speakers and attendees to plan effectively for the new dates.” He added, “We have had tremendous support and understanding from the industry during this process and are now all looking to forward to a successful return to Essen next year.”

The European Thermoforming Division of the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE, Antwerp / Belgium; www.thermoforming-europe.org) has announced the postponement of the Swiss “SPE – European Thermoforming Conference” to 3-5 March 2021. The location for the meeting remains the Starling Hotel in Geneva, the SPE said.
