Coronavirus prompts Detroit motor show to be cancelled / Show space repurposed as temporary hospital
The 2020 “North American International Auto Show” organised by NAIAS (Troy, Michigan / USA; is cancelled in light of the global sweep of the coronavirus pandemic. Show organisers said the TCF Center in Detroit, site of the cancelled show, is being repurposed as a temporary field hospital by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). FEMA, part of the US Department of Homeland Security, is created to coordinate a response to a disaster in the US that overwhelms local and state resources.

The “New York International Auto Show” (NYIAS; organised by the Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association (Whitestone, New York / USA; was rescheduled from early April to 28 August to 6 September 2020 due to ongoing health concerns stemming from the spread of Covid-19. FEMA also converted the Jacob Javits Convention Center, where the NYIAS will be held in New York City, into a temporary field hospital.
