EUROPEAN PLASTICS INDUSTRY
EPDA survey shows return to health in late 2015 / Higher sales and capital expenditure / Optimistic outlook for 2016
A survey of the European plastics industry has revealed it was much healthier at the end of 2015 than in the previous 12 months, with rising sales and investment. In the European Plastics Distributors Association’s (EPDA, Salisbury / UK; www.epda.com) "State of the Nation" poll of its members, more than 76% of respondents reported that sales had risen compared to 2014. The increased demand was also reflected in the amount invested in capital equipment with nearly 53% of EPDA’s members spending more than the previous year. In addition, more than 82% of EPDA members had either recruited more staff or maintained employment levels.
Members believe that the underlying positive momentum in the plastics industry will continue during the year ahead with 58% of those surveyed optimistic about the future outlook, despite the ongoing problems in the Eurozone and China’s slowing growth.
EPDA said the survey was a barometer of how the industry is faring compared with the region’s current fluctuating economic situation.
The membership-based organisation represents Europe’s top manufacturers and distributors of plastic sheet, blocks, rods, profiles, tubes, pipe, valves and fittings. It also has an affiliation agreement with the International Association of Plastics Distribution (IAPD).
