PA group reports record half-year numbers / Good business with specialities / Raw material costs soar
The Ems Group's (Domat / Switzerland; www.ems-group.com) sales and earnings rose in the first half of 2017 to new record highs. Compared to last year's half-year period, net sales of the polyamide specialist rose by 6.5% to CHF 1.07 bn (EUR 968m) and EBIT went up by 5.8% to CHF 280m. This corresponds to a slightly lower, but still high EBIT margin of 26.2% (previous year 26.4%).
Although overall economic development slowed down in the main markets, the Swiss market was successful in expanding speciality business in many regions and customer industries. Growth in Asia was particularly strong. In addition, commodity prices had "gone upwards" as a result of sustained shortages, which were passed on to customers through sales increases.
For the full year 2017, Ems expects sales and EBIT to be slightly higher than in the previous year.
