EMS-Chemie AG (CH-7013 Domat/Ems) has developed a UV-resistant polyamide under the name “Grilamid TR 90 UV” for exterior applications. The new material is clear and transparent and has no colour cast, despite the fact that it is stabilised against heat and UV radiation. Albert Hilgerig, Production Manager for Grilamid, sees its main area of application in automotive engineering, for example in brake lights and exterior mirrors. Apart from its greater chemical resistance, this PA has very good flexural fatigue properties and stress cracking resistance. The material is particularly suitable for highly stressed, transparent injection moulded parts for exterior application, and does not have any tendency to cloudiness, says Ems.
