Swedish packaging manufacturer Ecolean (Helsingborg; www.ecolean.com) is to establish a second plant at Landskrona – about 25 km from its Helsingborg headquarters. According to CEO Peter Nilsson, the investment for the new production plant, including the 30,000 m² site, will be between EUR 25m and EUR 30m. Production is planned to start up in 2020.
This would be the fourth plant for the stand-up pouch specialist in addition to its production facility in Tianjin / China, which was expanded in 2017, and a plant currently under construction in Lahore / Pakistan. The latter is to start operations in 2018.
Ecolean extrudes polyolefin multilayer films, which consist of up to 35% calcium carbonate, and processes them into white and transparent stand-up pouches with sizes between 200 ml and 1,500 ml. The company also manufactures and sells corresponding filling machines.
Ecolean has a staff of 400 employees, half of whom work at its main plant. In 2017, sales amounted to just under SEK 918m (EUR 88m). Last year, the Swedish company processed 22,000 t of raw materials, of which polyolefins accounted for the largest share of 65%. Fillers and pigments accounted for 32%, while barrier materials made up the remaining 3%. For environmental and cost reasons, the edge trim of the films is recycled within the company and returned to production.
