US materials giant DuPont (Wilmington, Delaware; www.dupont.com) has added a series of products to its “Delrin” range using certified 100% feedstock from waste. The new material, an engineering thermoplastic that can replace metal parts, is manufactured using equipment powered by renewable electricity from wind power, and steam sourced from a municipal waste energy recovery system, according to the company.

In a statement, DuPont said the products have the same quality, performance, processing and sensory experience as the established materials, but with a significantly improved carbon footprint. Uses for the resins include components for door and conveyor systems and safety applications.

Distributed in EMEA and Brazil by DuPont’s German sales partner Biesterfeld (Hamburg; www.biesterfeld.com), the Delrin range is said to offer low friction and wear resistance in addition to high rigidity and strength. It also has a wide operating temperature range of -40C to 120C, and good dyeing performance.

DuPont recently announced a series of price increases for its products, notably its technical compounds and certain elastomer brands (see Plasteurope.com of 02.09.2021 and 09.09.2021).
