An advanced composite reflector (ACR) designed to significantly improve the performance of liquid crystal displays (LCDs) has been launched by DuPont (Wilmington / Delaware / USA; www.dupont.com). "Optilon" ACR is claimed to allow enhanced light utilisation and colour balance in displays, with lower overall display cost. The reflectors are located in the rear of the display backlight and are highly effective in reflecting light to the front of the display. Initial use of Optilon, which is available commercially, is in 32-inch LCD televisions. A further anticipated application is in anti-reflective films to reduce screen glare.
