DUALES SYSTEM DEUTSCHLAND
Entry into plastics recycling market / Acquisition of TPP / Recyclers nervous about new player
Following a recent management buy-out led by CEO Stefan Schreiter, German recycler Duales System Deutschland (DSD, Cologne; www.gruener-punkt.de) is working on broadening its base. Schreiter plans to forward-integrate DSD by operating own recycling plants and has set aside EUR 20-30m to acquire relevant recyclers. The first move in this direction came with October’s acquisition of the insolvent TPP Thermoplastics (Hörstel / Germany; www.tpp-recycling.de). A DSD spokesman told Plasteurope.com that TPP has the capacity to manufacture about 20,000 t/y of PE and PP recyclate.

Established recyclers are becoming increasingly nervous about DSD, fearing that despite the relatively small order volume thus far, their new competitor will become an important market player with access to the entire value chain.
