E-car thermal management portfolio expanded with new PPS grade

DSM (Heerlen / Netherlands; www.dsm.com) has launched “Xytron G4080HR”, a new polyphenylene sulphide (PPS) grade. The new material is expected to optimise the performance of thermal management systems for e-cars.

The 40% glass-reinforced material is engineered for heat aging performance, hydrolysis resistance, dimensional stability, chemical resistance at elevated temperatures and intrinsic flame retardancy. It maintains its strength at continuous operating temperatures exceeding 130 °C for 6,000 to 10,000 hours. In a recent 3,000-hour 135 °C water-glycol fluid test versus a comparable competitor grade, Xytron G4080HR delivered 114% higher tensile strength and 63% higher elongation at break.

The Xytron family of materials is suitable for use in various applications. These include powertrain parts and electronics as well as industrial applications such as connectors, e-motors, bobbins and compressors, heat pumps, appliances, small engines, pneumatics and hydraulics.
