Its new silicone-based Dowsil additive was developed as an alternative to processing aids containing fluoropolymers, which are being phased out under customer and regulatory pressures.

Dow said the material provides converters with a polymer processing aid that meets regulatory requirements without compromising performance. Supplied as a masterbatch, Dowsil combines a silicone additive with a polyethylene carrier, and can be added via dry or melt blending into existing extrusion lines.
Created for a wise range of film packaging and polymers, the company said its new processing aid smooths film surfaces along with reducing die lip buildup.
The masterbatch complies with EU 10/2011 and US FDA 21 CFR 174.5 for food-contact applications, it added.
