Three plants at Terneuzen to close in restructuring plan
Dow Chemical (Midland, Michigan / USA; www.dow.com) has identified Terneuzen / The Netherlands as the site of three (out of 20) plants it intends to close to contend with the economic slowdown and oversupply situation for petrochemicals and plastics – see Plasteurope.com of 11.12.2008. The units operated by Dow Benelux produce styrene, ethylbenzene and polystyrene. Production capacity will be distributed among newer facilities at the Dutch site and at other worldwide locations. A company spokesman told Plasteurope.com that talks with employee representatives have begun and are expected to be concluded in February 2008. Altogether, Dow has 26 plants at Terneuzen.
