PA specialist's German companies file for insolvency / 585 employees affected
— By Plasteurope.com staff —

The three German companies belonging to polyamide manufacturer Domo Chemicals (Ghent, Belgium, www.domochemicals.com), namely Domo Chemicals, Domo Caproleuna (both in Leuna), and Domo Engineering Plastics (in Premnitz), filed for insolvency on 29 December 2025. The provisional insolvency administrator is Lucas Flöther from Flöther & Wissing Insolvenzverwaltung (Berlin; www.floether-wissing.de), which recently also handled the insolvency of film manufacturer Treofan (Neunkirchen, Germany).

Flöther is examining the restructuring options and plans to continue operations at all three companies, even though he considers the market for chemical companies to be difficult. According to him, day-to-day business is continuing without restrictions so far.

A total of 585 employees have reportedly been affected. The management of the Belgian holding company cites weak demand, high energy prices, and most recently, a sharp rise in polyamide imports, particularly from China, as the reasons for the insolvencies. According to Flöther, further financing talks “failed at short notice” following a restructuring process that had already been initiated in 2024.

Leuna is the polyamide producer’s largest production site, with capacities for caprolactam (176,000 t/y) and PA 6 (110,000 t/y). In addition, there are further plants for several other intermediate products, including cumene and phenol. Around one third of the PA 6 produced in Leuna is used as a raw material, with the rest going into fibre production, primarily for carpets. Compounding also takes place in nearby Premnitz. Other significant production facilities are located in Italy, France, and Poland.

Domo had abandoned the backward integration of key PA 6.6 precursors such as adipic acid and HMD, which it had initially carried out jointly with BASF, in mid-2025 and instead focused on expanding compounding operations in Asia, among other places.
