More than one year behind schedule, Dioki Petrokimya (Ceyhan, Turkey; www.dioki.com.tr) is planning to bring its second polystyrene production plant onstream at the Turkish location of Yumurtalik in the Gulf of Iskenderun – most probably towards the end of 2023.

The same was reported by Turkish newspaper Dünya’s interview with managing director Ali Sefa Küçükboyacı. No confirmation was provided by the company when contacted by Plasteurope.com. 

Initially, the EUR 40 mn investment for the production of 70,000 t/y general-purpose PS was scheduled to commence operation in the course of 2022. This is set to boost Dioki’s overall capacities to 130,000 t/y PS – plus a further 18,000 t/y EPS. The additional volume is intended primarily for export to Balkan states, besides Italy and Spain. 

The latest plans at Dioki – which took over the plants from the former Croatian company of the same name and relocated them – concern ABS. Within the next five years, Küçükboyacı intends to install an initial polymerisation line with an expected capacity of 50,000 t/y; the company has already leased additional land for this purpose. Dünya’s managing director is quoted as saying that there is currently no domestic production of ABS, with Turkey importing some 120,000 t ABS each year instead.
