Plastics recycling in Scandinavia expanded / Acquisition of Swedish Meltic
Danish recycling group Danrec Karup ApS (DK-7470 Karup), a subsidiary of Deutsche Abfallwirtschaftsgesellschaft mbH (DAW, D-23611 Bad Schwartau; www.daw.com), recently acquired a 75% holding in recycling group Meltic AB (S-330 10 Bredaryd / Lanna; www.meltic.se). The remaining shares of the group are held by Anders Hillertz, one of the former owners, who also assumes the functions of general manager. Meltic´s subsidiaries are AB Anders Hillertz (S-431 21 Mölndal; www.hillertz.se) and Scanretur (N-2030 Nannestad).
The group deals in the collection, segregation and treatment of residual materials from industrial and domestic sources. In addition to waste paper, used wood and scrap metal, the company processes plastics waste and process waste from the plastics processing industry. Its contractual partners include the collection and reprocessing schemes for plastic packaging in both Sweden (www.plastkretsen.se) and Norway (www.plasretur.no), as well as the Danish PCV-pipe reprocessing scheme (www.wuppi.dk). According to DAW, the acquisition will reinforce Danrec´s position on the plastics recycling market. Last year already, the company acquired Scandinavisk Plast Industri (DK-4370 Store), which manufactures sheet and cable covers from recycled plastic sheet. Investments in Denmark and Sweden are planned for the near future in order to further develop the sites, says DAW.
