EUROPEAN FLEXIBLE PACKAGING
Consumption grows by 2% in 2011 / Customers pay the price of rising costs / PCI Films report
European flexible packaging production rose by 5.1% in value terms in 2011, primarily because of rising inks, adhesives and energy costs being passed on to customers through higher selling prices. According to a recent study from PCI Films Consulting (Guilsborough, Northamptonshire / UK; www.pcifilms.com) – β€œThe European flexible packaging market to 2016” – the EUR 11.6 bn market saw consumption increase by almost 2% per year.

Geographically, the larger volume markets of western Europe grew at between 4% and 6%, while demand in Spain and Portugal was broadly static. In Greece flexible packaging values declined again in 2011. The key east European markets of Russia and Poland continued to exhibit growth at twice the average for Europe as a whole. At just under EUR 2.5 bn, Germany was the largest consumer in 2011, followed by France, the UK and Italy.
