Coveris (Vienna, Austria; www.coveris.com) has announced the completion of a GBP 6m (EUR 7m) investment programme at its Winsford site in the UK, which included the construction of an 825 m² film hall and the installation of four new co-extrusion lines. The packaging manufacturer had increased its capacity for producing co-extruded films at its Winsford facility previously in 2019 (see Plasteurope.com of 13.12.2019).

The four new lines were formerly owned by UK-based Total Polyfilm, which went into administration in November 2019. Coveris said the year-long investment programme at Winsford would position the facility as a “centre of excellence for industrial, agricultural and recycled stretch products”. The Austrian company refused to comment on the capacity of the lines, when questioned by Plasteurope.com.

The group said it was planning to open a new research and development lab at the site towards the end of 2021. The new lab would speed up its development and scalable production of downgauged, recyclable, recycled performance films, which would meet new legislative requirements, it added.
