CLARIANT
Additives introduced for nonwoven fibres in medical applications
Swiss speciality chemicals producer Clariant (Muttenz; www.clariant.com) has expanded its “Mevopur” range through the introduction of colour and functional additives for use in high-performance, spun bond fibres used in medical applications. The masterbatches are available in seven colours – yellow, orange, red, violet, dark blue, mid blue and green. Options, including custom colours, are also available for use with PE bi-component fibres.
Nonwoven fibres are used in applications including surgical gowns and masks, sterilisation bags, medical filtration products, and a range of sanitary and hygienic pads, and wound-care dressings. These applications often require extraction and biological evaluation to US Pharmacopeia and other similar standards. Mevopur additives are supplied to makers of medical and pharmaceutical products with regulatory documentation to support their use in healthcare applications.
