CHINAPLAS 2017
"Industry 4.0" conference in Guangzhou / Chinese automotive and packaging industries growing
Together with the German plastics and rubber machinery association, VDMA Kunststoff- und Gummimaschinen (KuG, Frankfurt; http://kug.vdma.org), Adsale Exhibition Services (Hong Kong / China; www.adsale.com.hk) is co-organising the second "Industry 4.0" conference. The conference will be half-days on each of the first three days of the "Chinaplas 2017" trade fair, which takes place 16 - 19 May in Guangzhou / China (see also Plasteurope.com of 01.02.2017). Industry 4.0 has a sector-specific structure, addressing the automotive industry on day 1, electronics and electrical appliances on day 2 and the packaging industry on day 3.
The focus of Industry 4.0 this year is on transferring added value of digital technologies to foreign markets. Companies illustrating this and presenting at the conference include Arburg, Engel, KraussMaffei, Reifenhäuser, Wittmann Battenfeld, Brückner, Kuka and Haier.
China's automotive industry is growing. According to Germany Trade and Invest (gtai, Berlin / Germany; www.gtai.de), 24.4m passenger cars were sold in China last year, which is an increase of 15.5%. Growth in the market for electric vehicles is especially strong, and 517,000 electrical cars were produced in the country in 2016, an increase of 53% over the previous year. By 2020, the market share of electric vehicles is expected to grow to 5%.
China is the world’s biggest producer of electronic goods. The domestic market for refrigerators and computers is saturated and the pressure on costs is high. On day 2 of Industry 4.0, there will be discussions on the individualisation of mass-produced consumer goods.
The food sector in China is booming, and along with it the packaging industry is to gain momentum. During the first 11 months of 2016, food production recorded year-on-year growth of almost 14%, according to gtai. For food and beverage companies in China, annual growth up to 2020 is forecast to be 8.8%. A change in consumer habits also foresees more food packaging requirements, and the hygienic and safe packing of food products is highly valued by Chinese consumers.
There will also be a panel debate on the standardisation of digital interfaces. Uniform information models will make machine networking more straightforward, with components from different manufacturers able to be easily combined into systems.
