Additional production is being planned at the Pengerang site in Malaysia, where Petronas’ (Kuala Lumpur / Malaysia; www.petronas.com) “Rapid” refinery and petchem project with polyolefin lines has been constructed over the past few years – see Plasteurope.com of 11.01.2019. Nearby the Rapid integrated complex, energy group ChemOne (Singapore; www.chemone.com) is to build up aromatics production at a cost of nearly USD 3.4 bn (EUR 3.1 bn).

At the core of its “Pengerang Energy Complex” (www.pengerangenergy.com), a condensate splitter with a processing capacity of more than 6.3m t/y will be built to produce naphtha as a precursor for aromatics. Capacities of 1.5m t/y of paraxylene and 655,000 t/y of benzene are being planned, primarily for export to China.

Engineering company Maire Tecnimont (Milan / Italy; www.mairetecnimont.com) is tasked with the construction work at the site. Construction is scheduled to start in the second half of 2020 and be complete in the Q1 2022. Start-up is then expected in Q2 2022.
