BASF CEO Markus Kamieth appointed president of Europe's chemical industry association

Markus Kamieth, chief executive officer of BASF (Ludwigshafen, Germany; www.basf.com), took up his new role as president of the European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic, Brussels; www.cefic.org) on 1 January 2026. He succeeds Ilham Kadri, chief executive of speciality chemicals group Syensqo (Brussels; www.syensqo.com), who was elected Cefic president in 2024.

In his newly appointed role, Kamieth also assumes the chairmanship of the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA; www.icca-chem.org). The heads of the world’s largest chemical company traditionally play a leading role in industry associations. Kadri’s predecessor was Martin Brudermüller, who was CEO of BASF at the time.
